RPC-321 at recovery site, undergoing a Roscharch event.

alpha-yellow.png

Registered Phenomena Code: 321

Object Class: Alpha-Yellow

Hazard Types: Animate, Extreme Temperature, Aquatic

Containment Protocols: RPC-321 is to be contained in a plastic container within a standard containment locker at Site-015. Several on-site personnel have been seriously injured by SCP-321-2 during test logs, and as such, all tests involving RPC-321 are to be conducted with serious precaution. A log of all recorded RPC-321-2 patterns can be accessed on Document 321-A3.

Description: RPC-321 is a large block composed entirely of ice. RPC-321's dimensions are roughly 1-meter-by-meter, and it weighs roughly 950 grams. Despite being composed of ice, RPC-321 does not melt at temperatures at which ice normally melts, and has stayed in constant volume and shape since its recovery.

When placed in an outdoor environment, RPC-321 is inert. RPC-321's anomalous properties manifest when placed in an indoor room which exceeds 2-by-2 meters, in which RPC-321 will undergo a Roscharch event. During a Rorscharch event, RPC-321 will slide toward the center of the room at a rate of approximately 2 centimeters per minute. Once reaching the center of the room (or if RPC-321 has already been placed in the center of the room), RPC-321 will begin to secrete a clear liquid which has been identified as distilled water at a fast rate. The water secreted by RPC-321 does not appear to adhere to the laws of physics, and will flow in random directions, forming into a random circular pattern (designated RPC-321-1) surrounding RPC-321. Overhead photographs have shown that instances of RPC-321-1 resemble traditional depictions of snowflakes and wildly vary in shape and complexity.

After RPC-321-2 has been formed, it will rapidly freeze into several, spike-like crystals of ice, which have been recorded to reach heights of up to 20 centimeters. After 5 minutes, RPC-321-2 will quickly evaporate, and begin secreting water once again in yet another random pattern. Injuries have happened standing near RPC-321-2 as it freezes because of its sudden nature.

If RPC-321 is placed in a room with dimensions lesser than 2 meters by 2 meters, RPC-321 will remain inert. This property has been deemed useful in containing RPC-321 and preventing its anomalous properties from manifesting. It is currently unclear if RPC-321 is sentient.

Discovery: RPC-321 was discovered on April 12th, 2011 in an art exhibition in Prague, after several emergency calls of “people being impaled by ice”. An authority-conducted raid at the art exhibition found several patrons with deep wounds on their legs. Patrons present at the exhibition were amnesticised, injured civillians amnesticised and taken to the ER and RPC-321 transported to Site-030 for temporary containment and research. A cover story of an active shooter was planted at the site of discovery. RPC-321 was later moved to Site-016, and then to Site-015 for further study.

Addendum: The following text was engraved on a silver plaque outside of RPC-321’s room at the recovery site. The original text has been translated from Czech;

Snowflake, by Bořek Štěpánek1

Despite being heckled by the Bourgeoisie and the spineless beatniks who call themselves "professional critics" countlessly throughout my life as an artist, I managed to find a movement that helped me produce my latest piece. I thank the scholars of the Academy for their gracious help.

It is said that Jesus is responsible for all the unique shapes of snowflakes that fall upon us; that He made all of them by His own hand. However, other people say that it has been easily disproven time and again that no evidence of Jesus exists and that Atheism is the one true belief, that all snowflakes are formed by chance, through physics, as per the Water Cycle.

In my own personal opinion, these two theories are both wrong, as demonstrated through my newest piece. Snowflakes can be easily created with enough creativity and little effort, even on the large scale of things. Truly, Humanity does not know how nature itself works, and that even something as simple as a snowflake can confuse the wisest of minds. We claim to be on top, but deep down we all know that there are things far greater than we are. Snowflakes are just one of the many physical examples that we truly do not know how everything functions, and that once we discover something, there will always be an argument that splits us in two.

Reality is our canvas; but we must remind ourselves to not paint it in our image.

Warning: Please keep distance from the piece to avoid being injured.
