Registered Phenomena Code: XXX

Object Class: Alpha - Yellow

Hazard Types: Aquatic Hazard, Titanic Hazard, Info-Hazard, Extra-Dimensional Hazard

Containment Protocols: RPC-XXX and its translations are contained in a standard object containment locker in Site-182 and are available to personnel with at least level 2 level 3 clearance. Expeditions into RPC-XXX-A may be authorized by the site director. No further expeditions into RPC-XXX-A may be conducted. Researchers are not permitted to read the full text of RPC-XXX. Thus, each translation is divided into two parts. Should a researcher read both parts of the translation, they are to be administered class A-2 amnestics.

Description: RPC-XXX is a scroll containing an ancient Hebrew work of literature estimated to have been written between 1100 and 900 BCE. The scroll describes a firsthand account of a fisherman who got lost at sea, eventually discovering the gates of Eden and describing what became of it after the Fall of Man. However, despite referencing various events and characters from the Old Testament, the text severely deviates from the narrative of the Bible. For example, the text asserts that Adam and Eve were fish and not human, decries Noah, and sets angels as equal to God. This has lead the Vatican Pontifical Biblical Commission to declare RPC-XXX heretical.

Only subjects who have read the full text of RPC-XXX are able to perceive and enter an extradimensional space located at the bottom of the Central Suakin Trough,1 hereafter referred to as RPC-XXX-A, and interact with RPC-XXX-B.2 The entrance to RPC-XXX-A manifests as a verticle circular stone structure roughly 100m in diameter inscribed with characters that have yet to be deciphered. RPC-XXX-A itself is a deep, narrow trench. Its true depth is unknown, as the water pressure remains at a constant 277.044 atm and no water surface has been discovered. However, the entrance leads to a point roughly 50km above the deepest known point in RPC-XXX-A. RPC-XXX-B denotes any entity within RPC-XXX-A. RPC-XXX-B instances vary in size and shape, ranging from 30 m to 5 km long and possessing abnormal morphology. They appear to be unable to leave RPC-XXX-A and none have ever been observed to attack humans. Instances are hostile and should be avoided at all costs. A full list of known RPC-XXX-B instances is available in Addendum XXX-001.

Discovery: RPC-XXX was first discovered in 1922 during an Italian archaeological expedition in Dahlak off the coast of Eritrea. The object was sent to the Vatican for analysis and remained in the Vatican Library until Authority acquisition. On 13/9/1970, a manned bathyscaphe3 expedition in the Red Sea went missing while attempting to discover the Garden of Eden. Communications ceased from the crew almost immediately after they had announced that the destination was in sight. Search crews were unable to find the lost bathyscaphe, nor did they discover anything of note when in the exact location from which the final transmission was sent. The Authority was notified on 15/12/1970 to investigate the anomaly and, after discovery of the gateway to RPC-XXX-A, confiscated RPC-XXX and all affiliated documents.

Addendum XXX-001 - List of Known RPC-XXX-B Instances:

Designation Depth Range Approximate Size Physical Description Additional Notes
RPC-XXX-B-1 0 m-50 km 30 m long, 5 m wide A large fish-like animal with two pairs of pectoral fins lined with bioluminescent spots and a pair of ventral fins large enough to conceal most of its body. RPC-XXX-B-1 also appears to possess 3 mouths. Subject is capable of emitting infrasonic sound through unknown means. Researchers believe these sounds to be a form of communication.
RPC-XXX-B-2 1 km-30 km 100 m long, 30 m wide A mass of bioluminescent fins and tentacles completely covering a central body, save a human-like face on the front. Subject appears to possess sapience, as it has been observed using its tentacles to carve symbols on the walls of RPC-XXX-A.
RPC-XXX-B-3 20 km-35 km 1 km in diameter A transleucent spherical invertibrate. Subject does not appear to possess organs beneath its "skin." N/A
RPC-XXX-B-4 30 km-50 km 3 km long, 500 m wide A serpentine animal bearing traits similar to the Eunice aphroditois.4 RPC-XXX-B-4 is hostile and has been observed actively attacking other instances.
RPC-XXX-B-5 50 km [REDACTED] [REDACTED] No further expeditions have been authorized since the discovery of RPC-XXX-B-5 and containment protocols have changed accordingly.
