Introduction

Welcome, Ranger, to the Galactic Alien Index. It is here the GRPC categorizes and logs numerous sapient alien species. While a few aliens possess anomalous abilities and are thus assigned Galactic Registered Phenomena (GRP) status, the vast majority of extraterrestrial lifeforms are no more anomalous than the average Human being.

This document deals exclusively with Registered Alien (RA) species, which meet at least two of the following criteria:

  • The species is anomalous but does not warrant a GRP article.
  • The species possess FTL capabilities and has interacted with Humanity on more than one occasion.
  • The species must be mentioned in at least one GRP document.

All entries are divided into one of three categories according to their current status and location:

  • EXPANDING: Species has a developed homeworld and multiple star systems under their control.
  • EXILED: Species lacks a homeworld, making them difficult to keep track of.
  • EXTERMINATED: Species is extinct or has been genetically or mentally altered beyond its original state.

The format is as follows:

Designation: Designated Aliens-XXX
Psycological Human Likeness: #.#

Affiliation/Affiliation Status: Species connections and relationships with the GRPC and Entities of Interest.

Description: Physical and psychological profile of the average individual in the species.
Properties: Anomalous attributes or queue abilities of the species.
Technology: Unique technologies the species possess.
Notes: Additional and/or follow-up information (Optional).

Designation: RA-013 (Selohssa/Soshi)
Psycological Human Likeness: 0.6
Affiliation: All Living Organisms (Hostile)
Soshi

Captain Reishi of the 51st Battalion, painted by Ranger Rotander S. Bilirubin

Description: A cold-blooded, four-legged two-armed reptilian, standing at an average height of 6.3 ft / 1.9 m, communicates via bioluminescent flashes in their skin. Environmentally, the Selohssa prefer temperatures of 85F° / 29.4C° to 92F° / 33.3C°, atmospheric pressures of 2583.2psi / 17.8MPa, and breathable oxygen at 24.6% concentration. A Selohssa burns an average of 230,550 calories over a 720 hour period. To obtain their required caloric intake, the Selohssa diet consists of foods rich in C12, H22, O,,11.

Properties: The Selohssa are telepathically linked with their homeworld, getting vague updates on the status of their planet whenever something notable occurs. Examples include small abrasions forming on a Selohssa's skin following a planetary asteroid impact or feelings of impending doom if an enemy fleet appears in their Star System.

Technology: The Selohssa are FTL capable, utilizing a method that is still unknown to mankind but is believed to be slower albeit more maneuverable than our D-Drives. At some point in the Soshi's past, they were gifted or researched a form of technology that allowed for anti-matter production on an industrial scale. This technological development allowed the Soshi Empire to produce energy on a scale, dwarfing mankind's power output. In addition, anti-matter is utilized as a form of weaponry by Selohssa. Examples include anti-matter planetary bombs, anti-matter rockets for ships and heavy artillery, and anti-matter micro pellet guns for their mechanized light infantry.

Notes: If combat with a Soshi craft is initiated, vacate the conflict zone as soon as possible. Do not attempt to salvage any destroyed ship; the Soshi Empire possesses overwhelming numbers, and reinforcements will already be en route.

Zid

Illustration from W.B Plaxter’s Field Guide to Alien Life - Chapter 4 Zidophant Biology

Description: A Zidophant is a small and dense species, measuring only 2 ft / 61 cm tall and 3.6 ft / 76 cm wide but weighing 110 lbs / 50 kg on average. This evolutionary development was a result of their planet's harsh winds, which forced them to use their arms and legs to cling to the sharp rocky terrain. To compensate for the lack of mobile forelimbs, the Zidophant utilizes their trunks as grasping appendages capable of manipulating objects. The mouth of a Zidophant is positioned on the chest region, just between its two front legs. Being herbivorous, the Zidophants requires a high water intake for adequate nutrition. A family of plants not too dissimilar in makeup to Bryophyta3 make up the majority of a Zidophants diet.

Properties: When inhaling a unique drug4 the Zidophant will stimulate a node within their nervous system. This node contains anomalous innate abilities such as psychic manipulation, foresight, regional teleportation, and even prolonged life. While the drug does not have anomalous effects on non Zidophant species, it does intoxicate humans by stimulating the prefrontal cortex and dopamine receptors.

Technology: The Zidophant's technological level is limited, lagging behind humans. To active FTL, psychic priests use the Šňupat drug to open portals into the Ursaplane5, allowing their ships to traverse space at accelerated speeds. This same principle is utilized in weaponry. Soldiers or Captains will work in tandem with psychic priests who’ll use the Ursaplane as an intermedium to teleport small arms or ships shots past shielding.

Notes: Non-Human Rangers, be advised while Zidophants are members of human society, your status in the GRPC won't help sway their opinion of you. Zidophant Xenophobia runs deep in their culture and psychology. It's recommended you avoid making contact personally even if your mission requires it.

Designation: RA-252 (Volxadrak)
Psychological Human Likeness: 0.8
Affiliation:

GRPC (Mixed)

FSHS (Allied)
Independent (Hostile)

Slug

A Red Collective propaganda poster, translated into English

Description: The Volxadrak species are amphibious 7ft / 2.1m alien mollusks, possessing four arms and a single muscular foot. Volxadrak psychology is 72% muscle, and the species is chemically composed of 80% water. This high water concentration means the Volxadrak species prefer damp environments rich in H2O.

Properties: Volxadraks are naturally slow creatures, moving 6 mph / 9.6 km/h at walking speed but capable of swimming at 3 mph / 4.8 km/h. Due to their muscular mass, the average Volxadrak can carry twice its body weight and has a grip force of 126.2 pounds / 57.1 kilograms on average.

Technology: Despite being mentally slow, Volxadraks chronotech6, a relatively new invention, has given them a minute mastery over space-time. Mainly used for FTL, chronotech can speed up a ship's estimated arrival time, breaking the speed of light. While this technology can speed up time, it can not slow or reverse it. Genetically engineered Volxadrak ground forces also utilize chronotech in time-suits. These suits enhance their speed and reflexes when activated. Armed with Chrono-guns, targets hit will rapidly age to dust.

Notes: One of the few Aliens allied with the xenophobic Soviets. All Station Alliance captains should avoid interactions when possible. Galactic Rangers are permitted to aid rogue Anti Red Collective Volxadrak under acceptable circumstances.

Slyth

Photograph of a Slyth Pilot

Description: A race of 10 ft / 3 m tall molluscoids composed of multiple tentacles protruding from ahead. The Slyth can see via hormones and scent ducts at the tips of their facial tendrils. These sensory organs have been modified mechanically to detect electromagnetic radiation, allowing for vision in a vacuum. This mechanical modding was also performed on their nervous system, allowing for a higher range of intelligence.

Properties: The Slyth evolved on their homeworld Nyx, located in the Monoceros consultation, orbiting the black hole The Unicorn. As such, Slyth can only live on planets in perpetual night, UV rays being hazardous and harmful to their body.

Technology: The Slyth utilizes a biological Alcuebierre-drive for FTL, which they use to visit conclaves within their borders regularly. It's also been noted they possess terraforming capabilities, modifying worlds by blocking out a planet's natural light source via nanobot swarms.

Notes: Slyth spacecraft are biomechanical, possessing an onboard immune system. It's advised you avoid boarding their ships if ever given the opportunity, especially if nonaugmented.

Designation: RA-099 (Kymen/Kymenna)
Human Likeness: 0.8
Affiliation:

GRPC (Allied)
FSM (Mixed)
FSHS (Mixed)
Independent (Mixed)

Kymen

Illustration from W.B Plaxter’s Field Guide to Alien Life.

A more detailed report is recorded here.

Description: The Kymenna are an insectoid species whose population (across many worlds) is centered within the Rosette Nebula which resides on the outer rim of the Monoceros constellation. They bear a disturbing likeness to the Lepidoptera order of insects once native to Earth, albeit anthropomorphic.

They are notorious pacifists and desire total isolation from outside forces. Due to the decentralized nature of their overarching administration, this isolation is difficult to enforce, and a variety of Kymennic governments along the edges of their domain are more open to trade and diplomacy.

Properties: Kymen stand at an average height of approx. 3 meters, with two large wings capable of sustaining short bursts of flight. Their incredibly durable exoskeleton is rivaled only by artificial alloys in its durability. This, in combination with their robust musculature capable of feats far beyond human capacity, augmented or not, makes them a very capable combatant.

Technology: Kymen technology is utterly beyond the ken of our current understanding of the sciences, anomalous or not. Their equipment, particularly their FTL systems, relies on principles that are as of yet completely unknown to us, and the incredibly rare opportunities to reverse-engineer them prove unsuccessful and often result in diplomatic disaster.

Any information as to their form or function is provided only by the Kymen and the few species who are willing to elaborate.

Hopkin

Hopkin criminal “Atgar the Great”, sketched by Free System Security

Description: A 3.3 ft / 1 m tall gray amphibious creature with two webbed feet, hands with three digits, wide toothy mouths, and large yellowish eyes measuring 2 in / 5 cm in width. Hematophagy is a Hopkin Aliens' primary way of gaining nutrients, drinking on average 2.3 Gallons / 8.7 Liters of blood every 30 Earth days. Psychological evaluations indicate that the Species is incapable of imagination, making it impossible for a Hopkin to develop anything independently.

Properties: If textile interaction is achieved, a Hopkin will instantly understand the principles and workings of said touched object. Their unique anomalous ability has earned them a reputation as grade A+ mechanics throughout human-occupied space.

Technology: Most modern-day weapons and ships possessed by the average Hopkin are repossessed from humans, mostly bought from Independent Factions. It's for this reason Hopkins regularly travel with human crews.

Note: Captains of the Ranger Corp with 87,660 hours of service are permitted to take Hopkins into their crew. If a Hopkin is caught inside any Corp research wing, it will be terminated.

Designation: RA-195 (Laknoctua or Laknocrtix)
Psychological Human Likeness: 0.6
Affiliation: All Homosapiens (Mixed)
Lakno

Sketch of a Laknoctua

Description: The Laknoctua, often abbreviated to Lakno, are a 9 ft / 3 m tall semi-humanoid alien mollusk that moves via a single foot. Facial features include a protruding forehead, mouth below the chin ridge, and two bulbous black eyes, capable of flashing colors for communication. The Lakno possess two double-jointed arms, with three fingers and two pseudo thumbs on each hand, allowing for a broader range of flexibility and tool use.

Properties: The eyes of the Lakno have anomalous properties, acting as portals to an unknown energy source. While used generally to communicate, the eyes can also flash a sequence of colors in rapid succession. These lights will induce seizure-like effects, even in Humans or Aliens with no history of Photosensitive epilepsy. In addition, the Lakno are innate psychics, possessing telekinetic abilities far exceeding the Zidophants.

Technology: As masters psychics, the Lakno species can mold matter and energy as they see fit. Most technology includes telekinetic dynamos for general use power. Like the Zdiophants, Laknos can utilize the Ursaplane for FTL. This ability is exclusive to the small one-person pod ships, and while they might lack weapons, light bending hides them from any aggressor.

Notes: If you spot a Lakno ship in the area, leave immediately; you’re already in its TK blast range.

Designation: RA-115 (Celliut)
Psychological Human Likeness: 0.2
Affiliation: All Living Organisms (Genocidal)
Celliut

Photo taken of a Celliut light-years away

Description: A reddish translucent bacterial extraterrestrial mold, ranging in sizes from 2 in / 5 cm to 15mi/24km. Test samples have yet to be taken due to the high risk of exposure.

Properties: The Celliut has a unique anomalous ability to detect all living organisms in a one lightyear radius. Upon detection, it will compress the space between itself and its target to assimilate all lifeforms.

Technology: All tech possessed by Celliuts was seized from other life forms. Infected ships utilized by the Celliuts will fire upon others to hinder their maneuverability.

Notes: The Celliut requires a living biological cell to replicate, similar to a viral infection. If you believe a ship or its crew has physically made contact with a Celliut, report it to your station's docking master.

Designation: RA-723 (Bakeneko)
Psychological Human Likeness: 0.9
Affiliation:

GRPC (Allied)
FSM (Cooperative)
FSHS (Mixed)
Independent (Cooperative)

Catkin

Photo of Mochi, famed pilot for the Rabo Station defense force

Description: The Bakeneko physically resembles a bipedal feline, specifically the Sphynx cat, standing at an average height of 18 in / 45 cm. Genetic sequence tests have confirmed that the Bakeneko species is nearly genetically identical, with 36/38 chromosomes matching the average house cat. Altered genes in the Bakeneko affect frontal lobe growth, back muscle/leg muscle growth, and thumb flexibility. Their life span has also been significantly increased, reaching ages of 20-30 Earth years.

Properties: While similar to a house cat, 2 of its 38 chromosomes are alien in origin, the product of deliberate gene-splicing by an unknown species. Mechanical implants, installed by the Kagami Genomics, have given Bakenekos the ability to hiss human speech. While not natural, these implants have caught on in popularity.

Technology: Stagnant technologically, the Bakeneko have opted to purchase weapons and ships from anyone willing to sell, primarily Humans. Powersuits7 modified to fit the Bakeneko are a favorite amongst construction and military crews. While not practical, Bakeneko sword-making technology is superior to mankind's, commonly used by Human and Bakeneko pirate boarding parties.

Notes: The mystery of the Bakenekos origins is a hot topic worth investigating. If a pilot wishes to visit Rabo Station's sub-levels, tetanus shots are highly recommended.

Designation: RA-089 (Skrekk)
Physiological Human Likeness: 0.6
Affiliation: All Living Organisms (Genocidal)
Skrekk%20Nebula.jpeg

Known Skrekk Nebula.

Skrekk%20Signals.png

A Skrekk as seen from a vessel’s signal receiver.

Description: An incorporeal hyper-consciousness comprised of electromagnetic radiation that, due to unknown factors, arranged itself in a similar wavelength as neural oscillations. This ability has resulted in the Skrekk existing only as free-moving energy within deep space - which usually molds together with others of its own kind to increase signal range. The only way to physically detect their presence is through high-range signal receivers attached to a spacecraft.

Properties: Possessing no physical body, the Skrekk can subsist within deep space for indefinite periods. This, however, does not mean they lack a need for sustenance. Unable to reproduce by conventional means, the Skrekk resort to the assimilation of weaker wavelengths. To achieve such a feat with sapient beings, the Skrekk have developed methods of terrorizing their victims within deep space into a state of delirium8 at which point they may assimilate their brainwaves as their own.

99% of subjects suffer brain death shortly after the Skrekk has assimilated the subject's brainwaves. However, there have been recorded instances of Skrekks manipulating dead bodies to terrorize surviving crew members.

Technology: The Skrekk, to our current knowledge, possess no technology. However, the assimilation of sapient species' brainwaves into the hyper-consciousness seems to have increased the collective's understanding of general technology and social interactions - thus making it harder for subjects to react correctly to an attack.

Notes: Known Skrekk clusters have been marked down in all current Galactic Compendiums. Regardless, Rangers are advised to avoid uncharted nebulas. If that isn't possible, vessel signal disruption mechanisms must be engaged, as it has been proven to repel them from entering their engagement distance.

Exterminated

Designation: RA-001 (Humanoids)
Phycological Human Likeness: Unknown
Affiliation: All Living Organisms (Genocidal)
Humanoid

Humanoid carving, photo taken by xeno excavation team

Description: The Xeno "Humanoid" has never been visually spotted. All known visual records of its existence have been extracted from markings left behind on alien artifacts pre-dating humanity. Most complex depictions have been destroyed, but surviving fragments depict them as bipedal, with two arms, legs, head, neck, and torso. Skin pigmentation, facial features, size, vocal abilities, and diet are unknown.

Properties: Xeno Humanoid artifacts maintain an everlasting and powerful anomalous property. This property has led researchers to believe the Humanoids had a profound understanding of the anomalous.

Technology: It's unknown to what degree this Alien reached technologically. Surviving examples lack any electronic components, mainly consisting of stone and or stone carvings.

Notes: Humanoid ruins are off-limits, restricted for your safety. If you're a Captain who'd like to explore these ruins, join the Galactic Ranger Protection Corp.

Designation: RA-824 (Havia-Trovis)
Phycological Human Likeness: 0.5
Affiliation: All Living Organisms (Mixed)
Mole

Sketch of a Havia-Trovis, done by Researcher Danforth

Description: Little information on Havia-Trovis is known to Human Intelligencia, including any form of primary documentation. Havia-Trovis, more colloquially known as "Mole-Men," are large, quadrupedal mammalian species of mixed-extraterrestrial origin. Human recounting of RA-824 has been documented as far back as the 11th century and extends farther into Earth's history.9

Despite being hard to classify outside of an ENL-Geneticist Test, all distant members of the Havia-Trovis can usually be characterized by high fertility rates, abnormal rate of genetic mutations, and mild to poor eyesight. Although, certain hairless deviations of the extraterrestrial have shown much more agile builds and scavenger qualities. Typically, they are carnivorous, thriving within dark or underground areas at mild pressures, avoiding largely arid, over-oxygenated, or luminous spaces.

Properties: Recent neurological finding by NuTani assets has found some evidence of mild (diminishing) telepathic abilities among members of the same or similar colonies, used for better coordination. Havia-Trovis has also shown a propensity for large-scale regional terraforming and societal formation of pseudo-chemistry despite both technological and neurological setbacks.

Technology: Although the technological expertise of Earthan Havia-Trovis is indeterminate, colonies mainly rely on basic mechanical forms of automation or manual labor. Archeological exploration of notably docile worlds has also shown the possession of similar forms of docile weaponry, derivative language, and astrological vessels to be present near almost all colonies. Despite this, most of them appear unable or lacking documentation to fully utilize this tech and are prone to eulogizing it as remnants of Ho'Ba'vai.10

Notes: Investigations into Havia-Trovis on Earth are deemed a non-essential priority and should be left to mainly third-party benefactors. As for its similarities to members of the parent Talpidae Class, its a question of 'the chicken or the egg.'"//
