Your Usual Commission

The engine whined at a high pitch with light beaming through the closed doors, a hack and cough disrupted quietness among them. Within view, another helicopter flew aside them, it was an Apache AH64D that acted as security along side of them. Colonel Ritter cautiously approached them as he placed his microphone near his mouth to divulge information.

“We're currently five minutes out from the facility, Inspector.” Colonel Ritter says as he scowls at Tom Jared and everyone else.

“What are we expecting exactly?” Tom Jared asks Colonel Ritter.

“You see Inspector—”

“Just Tom, colonel.” He interrupts Colonel Ritter.

“Apologies, Tom, what you and your team are about to inspect is our activities at a Site facility. I hope you all don't complain about some creaking noise or shit when sleeping at night.”

Cornwall snickers and shook his head at Colonel Ritter. “Oh, please. We're only spending at the facility for about seven days. I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna get scared by some paranormal or freaky zombie-thingy.”

“If I may?” Dr. Amelia interjects onto the conversation. “Why is the UNAAC even setting up a team to— well, spend a week at a Site facility operated by the Authority?”

“Good question.” Tom looked at Dr. Amelia. “When the Authority signed the International Anomalous Accords back in 1989, the UNAAC promptly set up a yearly inspection of any certain Site facility picked by the Authority, which UNAAC Inspectors can check for ethical standards and such.”

“Sounds like a waste of time.” Cornwall rolled his eyes and plainly looked back at the window.

“I can assure you Inspector, it is not a waste of time.”

The helicopter began to descend altitude as it approached closer and closer towards the Site facility. Tom glanced at the window and could see a lot of activity on the ground, many wore military equipment and transferred materials around them. Radio chatter became more frequent as the helicopter descended onto the helipad filled with security, most likely the protection detail for the arriving inspectors, which the helicopter's ramp opened slowly with light spreading in the helicopter's interior.

Colonel Ritter took off his headset as the helicopter's engines turned off.

“Welp. Gentlemen, and lady, welcome to Site-023.” Colonel Ritter says as he places on his cap and exited out of the helicopter.

The Inspectors quickly clutched onto their equipment and followed Colonel Ritter out of the helicopter.

“Now.” He stops and looks at the Inspectors behind him. “These people will be providing your security onsite at all times. Whether exploring around the Biology & Environment Wing, or exploring somewhere dangerous like the Gamma Wing. Any questions?”

Tom Jared placed down his bag to wear his sunglasses. “Uh, yeah. Is it always sunny at this location?”

Colonel Ritter chuckles lightly. “Why yes. We're in the middle of nowhere after all.”
