RPC-745 in containment

beta-yellow.png

Registered Phenomena Code: 745

Object Class: Beta-Yellow

Hazard Types: Mechanical Hazard, Sapient Hazard

Containment Protocols: RPC-745 is currently contained on Elephant Jason Island in the Falkland Islands. Elephant Jason Island has been designated a nature preserve by the Falkland Islands Government and restricted from civilian access. Site-426 has been constructed to house RPC-745 and the members of ASF "Falklanders," who are to serve as RPC-745's primary containment team. RPC-745 currently believes that Site-426 is an Argentine military base in which it is serving as a member of the command staff, with Site Director Dr. Cabrera, Asst. Director Gutierrez, and Agent Villalba as its superior officers. At least one of these personnel must be on duty at all times to ensure that RPC-745 does not conclude that it is the acting superior officer of Site-426. RPC-745 has been provided with a non-functional side arm in compliance with Argentine military standards.

The members of "Falklanders" are to operate under the guise of Argentine military personnel and are to be issued military uniforms consistent with those used during the Falklands War. Personnel are to obey orders from RPC-745 that are consistent with its primary behavioral patterns; orders felt to deviate from this are to be reported to RPC-745's containment team. In particular, if any of RPC-745’s orders suggests it is planning to carry out a military excursion of some kind, arrangements are to be made for RPC-745 to accompany ASF and MST forces on low-priority, low-visibility missions. Personnel are also advised that RPC-745 cannot be dissuaded from its current beliefs regarding the status of the Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom.

Description: RPC-745 is a mechanical humanoid construct, standing at 189 cm tall with an approximate mass of 500 kg. The date "07/08/1980" is imprinted on the back of RPC-745's neck. RPC-745 is constructed of steel components, with an outer layer consisting of a white synthetic aramid fiber. It requires no known power source. RPC-745 is sapient and capable of motion. RPC-745 is capable of verbal dialogue as well as receiving auditory and visual stimuli, despite lacking obvious sensory organs. RPC-745 primarily communicates in the Rioplatense dialect of Spanish, but has demonstrated a basic understanding of the English language1. RPC-745 identifies itself as "Colonel Agustín Garcia Manzanedo" and claims to be a member of the Argentine armed forces; no records confirming this have been found within the files of the Argentine Ministry of Defense but circumstantial evidence indicates it was likely the result of a secret military project.

RPC-745 demonstrates extraordinary physical abilities. It is able to lift loads in excess of 350 kg, and run at a rate of 40 km/h for up to half an hour at a time. It is capable of detecting sounds at infrasonic and ultrasonic frequencies beyond the human standard of 20Hz-20kHz. It is also capable of switching to limited thermal imaging and of low-light amplification via CMOS sensors, as well as visual magnification of up to 15x with minimal loss of resolution. However, RPC-745 also requires regular periods of reduced activity at least three times a week, usually lasting 12 hours. These periods apparently allow it to store energy for later use; RPC-745 might also possess limited self-repairing capabilities.

RPC-745 is generally passive in most situations and has been described as "friendly" by personnel at Site-426, but displays extreme hostility towards persons wearing uniforms used by the British military prior to 1985. This hostility has extended to non-humans who meet this description, including RPC-668 during their initial encounters2.

History: The Authority first discovered RPC-745 during the closing stages of the Falklands War, when Agent Avelardez, who was embedded with Argentine military forces at the time, witnessed it being deployed during the Skirmish at Many Branch Point3. RPC-745 was noted to display extreme combat effectiveness, managing to kill three of the British agents single-handedly, capture a fourth, and drive the remaining two men into retreat. Before being ordered to stand down, RPC-745 then attempted to pursue these agents.

The Authority began making inquiries with the Argentine government and Monarch Security as to the nature of RPC-745 as well as covering up the anomaly's involvement with the skirmish4. It was discovered that RPC-745 had already carried out several other missions of a more clandestine nature during the war, with Monarch Security already being aware of its existence; as the war turned against Argentina, RPC-745's handlers had been ordered to deploy it more brazenly.

The Authority began pressuring the Argentine government to rein in RPC-745 and maintain its secrecy. Despite initial refusals, in early July 1982 RPC-745 was surrendered to the Authority. The Argentine government claimed that the end of the Falklands War had caused it to begin displaying erratic behavior, at times arguing with and in one case physically assaulting superior officers and being found absent without leave on two occasions, requiring it to be located and subdued. This led the Argentine government to conclude that they would likely be unable to control it in the future.

RPC-745 was initially taken to Site-254 for containment; however, this act was apparently interpreted by RPC-745 as capture and imprisonment by British forces. RPC-745 spent its time in containment planning and executing escape attempts, necessitating increased security that began to strain Site-254's resources. During Incident-745-37, RPC-745 breached containment and escaped the facility; it also aided three other humanoid RPC anomalies under the belief that they were fellow POWs. RPC-████ and RPC-████ were recaptured within a week, but RPC-████ was never recaptured and is believed to have left Earth. RPC-745 reported back to an Argentine military facility, at which point Site-254's director Dr. █████████ submitted the proposal for what would eventually become RPC-745's current containment protocols. Site-426, initially designated OL-Site-745, was constructed during the next month, and RPC-745's original superiors "reassigned" it there soon afterwards. RPC-745 has remained cooperative with Authority personnel since then, and OL-Site-745 was eventually cleared for containment of other Alpha- and Beta-Class anomalies and designated Site-426.
