Registered Phenomena Code: 538

Object Class: Alpha-Red

Hazard Types: Transmutation Hazard, Contact Hazard, Destabilization Hazard

Containment Protocols: RPC-538 is to be stored within an anomalous containment locker at Site-002, no personnel is allowed to make use of RPC-538 unless authorized by Site Director Alan Walsh Sullivan.

All personnel are strictly prohibited from utilizing RPC-538 on anomalous objects or humanoids. The creation of new anomalies due to reckless behavior or disregard for the rules will result in contract termination and/or demotion to CSD personnel depending on the severity of the occurance.

Joint efforts with the Cloverfield Institute1 are underway for the location of GoI-2358 and the origins of RPC-538.

Due to "Test Incident - 003" all testing which involves the use of RPC-538 has been banned until further notice. Half of RPC-538 instances have been sent to the Cloverfield Institute to better understand the anomaly's properties.

Description: RPC-538 is the designation for a metal box containing a total of 500 wood splinters2 measuring an average of 3.5cm in length. These splinters come from the Pinus Longaeva3 tree.

The exterior of the box containing each RPC-538 instance shows a message which reads "Property of the Cloverfield Institute's Research Division-7X." Despite this, The Institute denies ownership of RPC-538, claiming it has never been taken out of their custody, but have shown great interest in helping the Authority research the anomaly's origin and its apparent duplication.

The anomalous properties of RPC-538 come into effect when introduced upon an object or person, in a similar manner to puncturing.

Once this condition is met, the splinter will vanish, and the object will divide into two new instances. Instances created by RPC-538 appear similar in function and appearance to the original object, with the exception being that all instances appear smaller in size than their initial measurements, with a calculated decrease of 5-9% mass with each use.

When utilized upon humanoids, or any other living beings, RPC-538 will create 2 new versions of the subject belonging to the same species, and withholding certain parts of their memories, alongside seemingly fabricated ones. It is to be noted that living organisms created by RPC-538 will have widely different personalities than their initial versions, while also behaving violently towards each other. In regards to anomalies, RPC-538 does not seem to alter the initial magnitude of the instance used upon, only slightly altering its properties.

Discovery: On January 19th, 2008, renovations to Site-002 were underway after an extensive series of containment breaches. During excavations, a 20cm3 metallic box was found under the Site's foundations. No prior knowledge of any excavations had been documented on the Site's history. As such, the object was taken to the Research Division's test chambers for classification and anomalous properties cataloging.

References
1. Reasoning Index: The measure by which the coherency and stability of an anomaly’s properties are quantified in a scale of 0 to 5. The higher the Index, the more “sense” its effects will make, the lower the index, the more random and unpredictable they will be.
2. Constants Theory: The notion that, despite radical differences between each other, all realities have several concepts or objects that stay consistent between one another, even when this would not be normally allowed under currently understood laws of extra-dimensional physics, e.g. Canada. Due to a lack of concrete evidence, this theory has been dismissed by the major part of the anomalous scientific community.
