Registered Phenomena Code: XXX
Object Class: Alpha-Yellow
Hazard Types: Sapient, Mechanical, Transmutation
Containment Protocols: RPC-XXX-1 is to be stored within the staff break room of Site-██ when not being used for testing. Staff are recommended against using RPC-XXX-1 for periods of time exceeding 2 hours. Under no circumstances is RPC-XXX-1 to be connected to a staff member's private computer outside of approved testing. RPC-XXX-2 and RPC-XXX-3 are to be housed in a secure storage room, with two guards stationed during testing. RPC-XXX-4 is to be stored in a chamber isolated from the rest of the facility, the roof of which has been made retractable to allow for an unobstructed view of the sky when testing.
All sapient entities produced by RPC-XXX-4 are to be interviewed, and housed in an appropriate humanoid containment cell. Any hostile, non-sapient entities produced are to be terminated as soon as possible, and remains disposed of via on-site incineration.
Description: RPC-XXX is the designation given to a collection to several anomalous pieces of technology. RPC-XXX-1 is a █████ █████ brand Virtual Reality headset. When connected to a computer, the headset is non-anomalous save for an indefinite battery life, and functions with any available virtual reality software, as well as any virtual reality controller.
RPC-XXX-2 is a reclining chair utilizing haptic technology, along with a pair of connected gloves which do as well. The objects are non-anomalous, unless connected to RPC-XXX-1
RPC-XXX-3 resembles a server tower, and contains an estimated storage capacity of ██ petabytes. A built-in screen shows various computer performance stats, akin to a BIOS diagnostic screen. Testing showed exceptional thermal control given the amount of processed data, only fluctuating a few degrees above average when in use.
When a person wears RPC-XXX-1 while plugged into RPC-XXX-2 and sits in RPC-XXX-2, all higher brain function will temporarily cease, and the person will be unresponsive to most external stimuli (See Experiment logs). When active, RPC-XXX will allow the user to choose any form of entertainment media and become immersed within said world, taking the role of the protagonist. A live video feed will then be displayed on the screen of RPC-XXX-3. In cases where the story is excessively linear(as is the case of most books and stories) the user has little influence over critical events and plot points, although minor alterations are possible.
In the case of a video game being chosen, the user will be given a prompt by RPC-XXX-1 to enable safety protocols. If left disabled, any damage or injury sustained in-game is reflected on the user's physical body. In the event of a non-scripted death, all vital signs will cease, and RPC-XXX-1 will become inert for anywhere between 8-12 hours. In the event a game death is scripted, however, the resulting injuries will not manifest on the user. Upon completing a game with safety protocol disabled, the user will have access to any abilities that game's protagonist has(See Experiment logs), which lasts for anywhere from 6 hours to 25 days.
RPC-XXX-4 resembles a large 3d printer with external dimensions of 7.5m x 7.5m x 7.5m. When connected to RPC-XXX-3, the screen will display an identical list to that of RPC-XXX-1. Upon choosing an option, the screen will bring up a list of any items, scenery, or characters found within the running program. When an option is selected, and the interior of RPX-XXX-4 is empty, the glass panels enclosing RPC-XXX-4 will turn black and opaque. Depending on the complexity of the item requested, the process will take anywhere from 1.5 minutes to 8 days. If the selection is a sapient character, the process can take between 2-40 days.
In the event of scenery or place being chosen, the panels will not return to being transparent, rather a section on the front panel will reshape into a door, allowing entry. The interior of RPC-XXX-4 will be replaced with the desired scenery, visually expanding outwards for upwards of ██km2, however the traversable area has been shown to be up to 7.5km2. In the case of the source being from a game, impassable barriers will exist where they would normally appear in game.
Discovery: RPC-XXX was discovered at [REDACTED] after several reports of "a group of children shooting laser guns in an abandoned mall". Upon investigation, several teenage boys were found to be using RPC-XXX-4 in order to emulate one of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 locations, specifically [REDACTED]. Boys were interviewed, given class A amnestics, and released.

Subject: RPC-XXX-1, worn by CSD-23156 while connected to RPC-XXX-2
Procedure:Determine functionality of RPC-XXX-1
Results: CSD-23156 reports the headset displays a message instructing them to put on the gloves attached to RPC-XXX-2 and to sit down. Upon doing so, RPC-XXX-2 automatically reclines and CSD-23156 collapses into it.The screen on RPC-XXX-3 flickers on, showing what appears to be several options, all denoting various media forms. CSD instructed to remove the headset, and is unresponsive. Security personnel are instructed to remove the headset from CSD-23156, and upon doing so, subject regains consciousness, complaining of a migraine. No other long term effects noted.
Subject: RPC-XXX-1, work by CSD-23156, unplugged from RPC-XXX-2
Procedure:Testing to see functionality of RPC-XXX-1 when unplugged from RPC-XXX-2
Results:CSD-23156 reports the headset displays a "no connection" error identical to ██████ brand headset.
Note: When RPC-XXX-1 turned on, my personal laptop received a connection attempt from the headset. Requesting to see how it reacts and functions with other computers - Researcher Johnson
Granted. And next time, leave your personal electronics in your locker. - Head Researcher ██████
Subject: RPC-XXX-1, worn by CSD-23156. Connected to a ██ Brand Computer via wireless connection
Procedure: Establish what effects RPC-XXX-1 has on non-anomalous electronics
Results: RPC-XXX-1 connected to the computer without issue. once connected, CSD-23156 reports that they can see a desktop screen, despite no monitor being connected to the computer. after approximately 30 seconds, CSD reports a message indicating a lack of controllers. when supplied with virtual reality controllers, CSD-23156 reports no issue with navigating around the screen, including opening the installed software
Note: Well it didn't kill him outright, requesting further testing and possible use in the break room if we can prove this thing is safe. - Researcher Johnson.
Subject: RPC-XXX-1, worn by CSD-23156. Connected to a ██ Brand Computer via Bluetooth. Computer connected to a monitor for ease of observation
Procedure: Various stress tests to determine the UI and technological limits of RPC-XXX-1
Results: RPC-XXX-1 performs well as a navigation tool as well as a display for virtual reality software and games. notably, the battery indicator never dropped below 100% across approximately 4 hours of testing. CSD-23156 reports feelings of fatigue and eyestrain consistent with prolonged usage of standard virtual reality technology.
Subject: RPC-XXX-4, CSD-23156
Procedure: Determine functionality of RPC-XXX-4
Results: After inspecting RPC-XXX-4, a small connection port, identical to the one found on RPC-XXX-1 was found. Plugging RPC-XXX-2 into RPC-XXX-4 results in RPC-XXX-3 booting to the selection screen as normally seen in RPC-XXX-1.
Note: It is currently unknown how RPC-XXX-2 and -3 communicate with each other, as there aren't any detectable signals being emitted from either object
Subject: RPC-XXX-4, CSD-23156
Procedure: As above
Chosen media: Moby Dick
Item selected: Harpoon
Results: Upon the harpoon being selected, the glass panels enclosing RPC-XXX-4 blackened, turning opaque. after approximately 14 seconds, the glass became transparent again, and a large whaling harpoon rested inside. Item composed of type ████ steel and is non-anomalous. Object stored in weapons locker.
Note: So it can make things you find in stories, but do they have to already exist in reality? Requesting further testing. -Researcher Johnson
Subject: RPC-XXX-4, CSD-23156
Procedure: Determine limits of functionality of RPC-XXX-4
Chosen media: Half Life 2
Item selected: USP Match, Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator (Hereafter referred to as the Gravity Gun)
Results: As before, the glass panels enclosing RPC-XXX-4 blackened and turned opaque. An audible hum could be heard for 2 minutes. upon completion, a functional USP match was retrieved and functioned as expected. When repeated for the Gravity Gun, RPC-XXX-4 stalled out during the "printing" process for approximately █ minutes before the glass became transparent. The interior of RPC-XXX-4 was empty, and following error was seen on the screen of RPC-XXX-4:
Error: Insufficient LHR present. Proceeding within an enclosed area measuring less than 2.5km3 may result in destabilization of localized reality. Proceed? [Y] | [N]
Test aborted.
Note: Well that isn't necessarily a no from RPC-XXX-3. Any chance we can get this thing access to a courtyard or something? -Researcher Johnson
Granted. But if shit hits the fan, it's your ass on the line. - Head Researcher ██████
Subject: RPC-XXX-4, CSD-23156. RPC-XXX-4 and -3 have been relocated outside for the duration of the following test.
Procedure: As above
Chosen media: Half Life 2
Item selected: Gravity Gun
Results: RPC-XXX-4 activated, an audible hum emanating from within for approximately ██ minutes. When finished, the Gravity Gun sat in the middle of RPC-XXX-4. Testing reveals the Gravity Gun works as it does in Half Life 2, being able to "grab" inorganic objects weighing up to 250kg, suspending them at a fixed point 20 cm from the end of the tool, as well as launching them with between 700N-1500N of force. Object is currently stored in anomalous weapon locker on site for use in emergencies.
Note: Real nice of this thing to warn us before destroying reality. But getting it outside was a pain, and I'm sure getting it back in will be just as bad. Requesting we figure out a way to contain it outdoors - Researcher Johnson
If you can figure out how to do that, go for it. But until then, request denied. - Head Researcher ██████
Subject: RPC-XXX-4, CSD-23156. RPC-XXX-4 has access to open sky
Procedure: Determine if RPC-XXX-4 is capable of propagating sentient life
Chosen media: Half Life 2
Item selected: Crow
Results: RPC-XXX-4 activated, an audible hum emanating as before. However, the noise steadily increased in both volume and frequency as time progressed, peaking at roughly 90 dB. This continued for approximately 6 hours before concluding. Within RPC-XXX-4 was a single Corvus Brachyrhynchos. Specimen was determined to be non anomalous and terminated.
Subject: RPC-XXX-4, CSD-23156. RPC-XXX-4 has access to open sky
Procedure: Determine if RPC-XXX-4 is capable of propagating sapient life
Chosen media: Half Life 2
Item selected: Issac Kleiner
Results: RPC-XXX-4 appeared inert for roughly 5 minutes, before activating as normal. However, instead of a low, continuous hum, the object emitted a shriek measuring 135dB, which lasted for approximately 5 seconds, followed by the usual noise. Activation lasted for 4 days and 7 hours, before opening. Inside was an elderly man seated at a computer terminal. Subject appeared engrossed in his work until approached.
More experiments to be added soon, alongside a cleaner experiment organization, just wanted to get the initial draft up.
