SYNOPSIS
So, this is going to be where I try and come up with something vaguely approximating the disconnected ideas I have farting around my brain into some sort of coherent narrative. It's going to be a story about some guy who has to put up with, quite frankly, an obscene amount of shit going really badly, with various things loosely based on exaggerated, fictionalized versions of various chapters and epochs of my life.
SETTING
So, basically, I'm thinking of an urban-fantasy style world not unlike the worlds of say FF VII and VIII. Big modern cities but then you're also going to have the peaceful idyllic rural villages and small towns.
There's going to be a big bad 'empire' type nation that wants to enact a one-world totalitarian government and the main character's country is going to be under threat.
The main character is going to be some guy who ends up joining a resistance faction but it's going to end up getting betrayed from within, most of them get killed, and the main character gets left for dead and has to become a cyborg to survive.
But I think at first he has to be recruited by the "good guys" after going through a brief period of being a bitter recluse. Maybe meet his future wife kind of deal. That's like the basis or main core I'm going for, and then I'll build off of these ideas to try and shoehorn discussions of religion and politics, etc.
PART I: IN THE BEGINNING
So, I'm thinking with the first part of this story, we're probably going to open just around the time the main character's home nation gets screwed over by the 'evil empire'. The leader, who I guess could be a monarch or an elected leader, doesn't really matter, gets assassinated by their own chief advisor who then signals the empire to send their guys in to back his faction.
Maybe a Final Fantasy XII style opening showing the bad guys arrive and mess shit up as well ought to do nicely. Then we're going to jump forward about 20 years. The main character is part of a resistance faction. After a few missions or so, the main character gets sent on a mission but, when he comes back, he finds that the rest of the group have all be captured or killed.
He sets off in search of survivors and finds a few but ultimately gets betrayed by his best friend who turns out to be an infiltrator from a rival group. He then gets left for dead, wakes up badly injured, and has to sort of put himself back together Naked Snake from MGS3 style.
He sets off on a path of revenge to get his own back against his former best friend, and then hopefully go on to defeat the puppet regime installed by the empire. To this end, he takes on odd jobs whilst listening out for intel. He meets some new allies along the way, who provide him with cybernetic upgrades.
